Rachel Maclean

Maclean’s videos and photos are often exhibited alongside props, costumes, sculpture and painting. The scenes she depicts slip between history and imagined futures, creating artificially saturated visions that are both nauseatingly positive and cheerfully grotesque. Within her videos, Maclean merges the visual aesthetics of The Dollar Store, Youtube, Manga, Hieronymus Bosch and High Renaissance painting with MTV style editing techniques.

Recent exhibitions include Electronic Superhighway, Whitechapel Gallery, London; Use/User/Used, Zabludowicz Collection, London; The British Art Show 8, touring, UK; Please, Sir...’, Rowing, London; The Weepers, Comar, Tobermory, Mull; Happy & Glorious, CCA, Glasgow; I HEART SCOTLAND, The Edinburgh Printmakers; Invites, Zabludowicz Collection, London; Quick Child, Run, Trade Gallery, Nottingham; Over The Rainbow, Collective Gallery, Edinburgh; Space Time: Convention T, Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge and Lolcats, Generator Projects, Dundee. Maclean received a BA from Edinburgh College of Art.
