Quayola (b. 1982, Rome, Italy) lives and works in London. Throughout his practice, Quayola creates hybrid spaces of animated painting and sculpture. Critically acclaimed for his immersive video installation work, he investigates the paradigms of old and new, and the real and artificial. His artistic practice often explores how we look at original masterpieces and collections – particularly the tension that exists between primary experience and a mediated viewpoint.
Quayola has exhibited and performed his work internationally, and in 2013 he was awarded the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica. Past displays of work include a project for the 54th Venice Biennale at the Italian Cultural Institute in London; and exhibitions at Paco Das Artes, Sao Paulo; National Art Center, Tokyo; Pushkin Museum, Moscow; Park Avenue Armory, New York; Center for Fine Arts, Brussels; Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, Barcelona; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; MU Artspace, Eindoven; the British Film Institute, London; bitforms gallery, New York.
