Stephen Vitiello

Throughout each of Vitiello’s 6 sound pieces, an excerpt from a novel is read by the artist and processed through a modular synthesizer. A unique patch on the synthesiser is created for each text. The resulting sound composition presents the sound of the processing, so that the original human voice is obliterated, leaving an abstract sound work of an essence of the original text, without the actual words. Readings include excerpts from Virginia Woolf’s The Waves, Samuel Delaney’s Stars In My Pocket, Like Grains of Sand and Don Delillo’s Ratner’s Star.
