Alexandra Drewchin

Alexandra Drewchin, who has been composing sound and music under the moniker Eartheater since 2009, has said that she strives to, “push my limits, to discover that my whole body is my instrument — not just my lungs and my voice box and my mouth and my brain.” As both a musician and an performance artist, Drewchin has frequented underground and DIY spaces of New York City and around the world. Wark, which was partially inspired by the Rihanna hit, “Work”, after overhearing it blasting from cars in her neighborhood, was created as a supplement to a DIY sauna installed at the experimental Brooklyn exhibition and performance space, SIGNAL. The etymology of “Wark” comes from Middle English ‘werk’, or ‘warch’, which comes from from Old English wærc, to mean “pain, suffering, anguish”.
